HEALTH AND WELLNESS

I have had issues with my weight on and off since I was a child.  Now, at my stage in life, I see the obvious truth.  I need to take better care of myself.  Hopefully I can share some insight and knowledge along the way.

The last few months have been leading to this new move towards wellness.  I have been researching the Zero Belly Diet and have decided that I want to use this method to lose inches and weight.  Today is Sunday April 3, 2016 and I began the 7 day "cleanse" that the author suggests.  It will be a challenging week but I am going to give it a try.  The cleanse consists of the following:  First thing in the morning a half hour of light cardio.  A Zero Belly smoothie breakfast, then the same for lunch.  A light snack in the afternoon, more exercise and 5 ozs of chicken, ground turkey, lean steak or fish with a generous portion of veggies for supper.  No eating after 7pm.  I will also drink lots of green tea and water.  I have made up the "spa" water with slices of lemon, lime and orange.  I have weighed myself and measured my waist so next Sunday I will add to this post the results.  I am hoping for positive results and will work to get those results.  Watch for next Sunday's Update.
I have tried meditation over and over for many years.  It wasn't until recently that I decided that I needed to take it more seriously.  My problem is, like most people, I can't quiet my mind!  I would start meditating and before you know it I would be thinking about what happened at work, what I was going to do later or if I left my keys in the front door lock.  What I have discovered that this is very normal, even for the best of the best.  Buddhist monks report that early in their practice they experienced the exact same issue.  It took many years to get good at it.  I know.  Many Years!  But that is okay.  Even if you do not think you are getting any benefits from your meditation attempts it is helping.  Even if you can quiet your mind for just a few seconds that is progress.  Keep it up every day when you get time for yourself and just try it.  I have been making it a daily ritual and I find myself looking forward to the 5 to 15 minutes that I get to just try it and shut down.  My mind is still cluttered with lists and stray thoughts but I do get some clam moments. It is definitely worth it.
Baby Steps ... Three times a dayFeb. 2016

Exercise is a great way to battle depression.  Getting out in the fresh air is especially helpful.  This can be a challenge while in the grips of a specially dark episode of depression.  Recently my Doctor got me going again.  I have been dealing with this affliction all my life but have only been aware of it since 2008.   Frustration with a lack of effort is not unusual for me.  I want to exercise.  I know it will help but my brain just shuts down.

So I am starting over again.  The doctor has me talking half hour walks, three times a day.  It's been eleven days and I have actually gotten the three walks in nine of those days.  It says it takes you three weeks to form a habit so here's to keeping this up for another 10 - 12 days.

If you are close to me and  free we can go for a walk, let me know.  Cheers!

FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS!

Focus is vital to achieving most goals.  Without it we can find ourselves the wrong side of realizing that all those fitness and wellness ideas we had are sitting on a dusty shelf in the basement.   Those resolutions some of us thought about New Years Eve are knocking on the back of our brains.  Take a look at a few websites that help you focus on fitness.
